Plant Line: A Visual List of Plants in the Great Swamp

Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Summit, NJ

April 24 - June 25, 2017

This collaborative installation was inspired by the exhibition, Matthew Jensen: Park Wonder. Jensen spent several months exploring northern New Jersey parks and landscapes including the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge. During his research for the show, the Great Swamp staff provided a list of more than 500 different species of plants found on the refuge.

Adult and teen artists were invited to illustrate the flora found on this list using Post-it notes. The goal was to represent as many plants found in the Great Swamp as possible on 3 x 3 inch Post-it notes. Over 160 Post-it notes were created.

Drawing on the Horizon

Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Summit, NJ

January 29 - March 20, 2016

Drawing on the Horizon is a collaborative installation crated by Art Center staff, docents, board members, students, and other New Jersey artists. Participants work directly on the gallery walls in succession, with each contributor responding to the adjacent artist’s work. The unfolding wall drawing incorporates a continuous horizon line connecting the work of each contributor.
